Making Connections and Maximizing BitTorrent Speed
ID #1002
How can I make BT transfers go faster?
BitTorrent works on the principle of "tit-for-tat", basically giving you faster speeds based on how fast and how much you upload. By uploading as fast as you can, you will download faster. By leaving your file window open after your download is completed, you will receive a higher "tracker rating", which will mean that the tracker hands out more connections to you on future transfers. It is asked that you do not close (or finish) your BitTorrent download until you have uploaded at least as much bandwidth as you've downloaded because that helps keep the speed of the network up and allows you to "give back" what you've gotten - thus showing your gratitude to the community.
